VALERY PYATNYTSKIY: "AUTONOMOUS PREFERENCES RELATE ONLY TO MARKET PROTECTION, NOT TO ITS DEVELOPMENT"

May 22, 2014 - the Club of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine held a roundtable "Resolution no. 374/2014 of the European Parliament and the EU Council on the reduction and elimination of customs duties on goods originating in Ukraine: practical aspects of using new opportunities for Ukraine". The meeting attended Sergey Yevtushenko, Jocelyn Huitton, Igor Burakovskyy and Valery Piatnytskyi.

The meeting was divided into two parts. The first was dedicated to discussion of general questions of the economic part of agreement with the European Union and the possible benefits for Ukrainian producers.

Government Commissioner for European Integration Valeriy Pyatnytskiy said that the beginning of implementation of Autonomous trading preferences showed a number of problems and questions, the answers to which are easily available to the European partners. Unfortunately, today all questions of Ukrainian Government EU leaves without answers, and the business does not have time to wait. So far, he said that autonomous preferences "relate only to market protection, not to its development."

The second part of the meeting was devoted to discussion of the practical implementation of Decision № 374/2014 with the companies in various industries.

Summarizing the results of the roundtable moderators agreed that the role and responsibility of government for raising the competitiveness of Ukrainian goods and harmonization of legislation is extremely important .
