EU will convene a panel of arbitrators of the WTO for dispute on the Russian tax on cars

The EU intends to Sept. 26 to ask the World Trade Organization (WTO) to convene a panel of arbitrators on the issue of anti-dumping duties on light commercial vehicles (LCV), established in the Customs Union (CU), reported a source familiar with the situation.

As reported in May, the EU requested consultations on the protective measures imposed on the LCV from Germany and Italy.

"According to the EU anti-dumping duties are incompatible with the provisions of the WTO on fundamental reasons and form. Consultations at the WTO will allow the European Union and Russia to find a negotiated solution. If the consultations do not lead to the result after 60 days, the Union may request the WTO to form panel of arbitrators, which will deal with the dispute", - noted earlier in the report of the European Commission.

Duty from 23% to 29.6%, applied to the European light commercial vehicles, is a significant obstacle to their access to the Russian market, stated in Brussels.
