The global auto industry faces a demographic crisis. It turns out that the car for a significant proportion of young people of Generation Z is no longer a cherished dream and symbol of prestige, as it's considered to be.
You can have different refers to this tendency, but this fact really exists. According to a study Look At Me, people born in the late 80's and early 90's and even later buy less cars. From 2007 to 2011, for example, the number of cars bought by people aged 18 to 34 fell by 34%. That's a lot. Teens generation Z actually stopped getting driving licences - what seemed like a must do for any 16-year-old American (learn to drive, to feel like an adult and independent) is now obsolete anymore.
Of course, the cars will not disappear due to drop in sales and desire of having a car. But the consequences of such attitude of the new generation the auto industry will feel in coming years.
