According to the State Statistics Service study conducted by the method of the International Labour Organization, in the third quarter of 2014 the unemployment rate in Ukraine amounted to 9.5%. This is the highest level since the beginning of the XXI century. Usually in the third quarter unemployment is significantly reducing compared to the previous quarter (for example, due to the involvement of labor in agricultural work).
However, in 2014 the situation was reversed: in autumn there was a sharp surge in unemployment (in the II quarter of 2014 this figure was 8.2%). The main reason for the jump in unemployment served as an acute crisis in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, which are the largest increase in the number of unemployed in Ukraine.
